Clouded Leopard Working Group
In her spare time, Alice is also the Ambassador for Nepali charity: the Clouded Leopard Working Group, as well as sitting on the European species committee for Clouded Leopards.
Clouded Leopards are listed as “Vulnerable” on the IUCN Red List. There is estimated to be between 5000-10000 left in the wild today, between the two subspecies: Neofelis nebulosa and Neofelis diardi.
Their threats in the wild include: poaching - not only for their cloud-patterned fur, but for their body parts, which fetch a high price on the black market for “traditional asian medicine”. The palm oil industry is also impacting their numbers, threatening their habitat as a semi-arboreal species.
Alice’s work for Clouded Leopards continues with her Ambassador duties - raising awareness and securing funds for the Clouded Leopard Working Group, so they can achieve their conservation goals.
In 2023, Alice travelled to Nepal and India to deliver research equipment to two Clouded Leopard charities: Project Neofelis and the Clouded Leopard Working Group. [pictured left]
In 2024, Alice, along with 5 other UK Zoos that hold Clouded Leopards, fundraised over £2500 to go towards funding Anti-Poaching Unit recruitment meetings in Nepal, inspiring locals to protect and conserve their native wildlife. [pictured above and below]
